ABD Engineering & Design worked with GBD Architects on the new NW Natural headquarters. Staff were accustomed to a combination of small open office areas, traditional cubicles, and closed offices. Project stakeholders expressed a desire to reduce distractions, common to larger open office spaces and smaller workstations.
ABD recommended a combination of sound absorbing ceiling finishes along with carpet, soft seating and sound masking. This recipe provides reduced reverberation in the open and enclosed spaces, while raising the background noise level just enough to limit distracting sounds from other parts of the office. The offices and conference rooms with higher expectations for privacy needed resilient wall assemblies to accomplish better noise isolation.
ABD’s expertise in design and during construction visits made sure wall details such as display mounts, back boxes, and penetrations were coordinated to maximize the sound isolation of each assembly.
NW Natural Headquarters Awards: The project won an IIDAP Oregon People’s Choice Award and Honorable Mention, and is Fitwel certified.
