ABD Engineering & Design worked with J-U-B Engineers on the City of Umatilla Rock The Locks Music Festival.
ABD created a model of the site based on the site plan, speaker sound data, and audio system information, along with data from other outdoor performance projects. Using the model, we developed mitigation options to help reduce the sound penetrating the nearby residential neighborhoods. Later, ABD conducted measurements during the 2024 festival and updated the model to show the impact. Residents completed surveys during the festival to provide their impressions of the sound.
ABD used the modeled data with the surveys to recommend sound limits to follow during future festival events. ABD will return to measure their effectiveness in following years.
