ABD Engineering and Design provided acoustical consulting services to assist in the design of the 205,000 square foot student center, including large divisible ballroom to be used for lectures, dances, concerts, and other activities, the meeting and banquet rooms, small conference rooms, and the large main lobby. ABD helped the design team address sound isolation issues, particularly for the Ballroom, and to create appropriate acoustical environments for the many other meeting and gathering spaces. Among these gathering spaces was the large main entry lobby which contained areas for lounging and studying and which required the careful integration of sound absorbing treatments to mitigate the reverberant environment that could potentially have resulted from the glass, stone, and gypsum wallboard room finishes.
