The Publican is an upscale restaurant in downtown Chicago with an “American beer-hall theme”. After opening, the restaurant received rave reviews for their food, beer, and for the aesthetics of the space, but the accolades were drowned out by complaints about the loud, noisy setting. Great food. Great drinks. Great look. But terrible acoustics. After trying several unsuccessful solutions, the restaurant contacted ABD Engineering and Design. We worked with them to develop acoustical solutions for absorbing the unwanted reverberation without detracting from visual theme of the restaurant. Our professional engineers modeled the space in 3D to predict the acoustical fingerprint of the room. From there, we designed acoustical enhancements that optimized the space for a terrific dining experience.
